Check out my DP 2019 Reel available below or on my Vimeo account. Special thanks to Erynn Mitchell and Felicity Childs Smith for letting me be their DP. Shoutout also to Pietro who composed the soundtrack for this project.
Coffee And Wine was written and directed by Erynn Mitchell to apply for a master degree. I had the honor to be part of this project serving as a Director of Photography. In this project in particular I enjoyed shooting two scenes in which Erynn gave me complete creative power: the hands of the two lovers (2.05) and the one of the cigarettes on the steps (2.22). I have always been very interested in detail and body language. It fascinates me how much small objects, or parts of our bodies, can convey to the viewer. Enhancing the storytelling by not only showing their faces, but rather focusing on their hands seemed to me a good way to express flirty playfulness paired with poisonous behavior. In the second clip having the main character out of focus while the passage of time, represented by the cigarettes, is in focus, translates into an allegory of how time has "burned" away their relationship turning it into ash.
Sugar was my first project as lead Director of Photography and shot with an emphasis on the visual trope of the occult and supernatural. Sugar follows the journey of a young student trying to write the perfect thesis. This leads her down a spiral through which she might lose her freedom and individuality. Most interesting to shoot for me were the dream sequences. They demanded an even higher attention to detail as the style needed to drastically detach from the rest of the scenes to convey the crossover to the supernatural and vast dream world. Below you will find the trailer.
Through Kingpin I was able to have my first experience as the Assistant to the Director of Photography. In close collaboration with the director and writer Mitchell and DoP Benitez a vibrant and energetic look was created for the gangster revenge focused short. Neon lights and contrasting colors where at the center of this visually rich project that introduced me to the exciting and complex art of cinematography.
